Wire mesh fences are at once versatile and perfectly suited to act as décor. Wire mesh fence systems can be found in an array of sizes, styles, and colors. Wire mesh fence systems have as their core elements framework, mesh, gates, and fittings. They way in which you put these elements together is what makes for a unique and durable wire mesh fence. Each one of these component parts can be found in a wide array of weights, or “gauges”, and protective coats. The provider of wire mesh fences can mix and match the different components so as to make their system “unique” or to make them cost less.
The most common of the coatings is galvanized zinc with applied polyester color. The color treatment allows for better landscaping and at once allows for a natural blending in with bushes, flowers, gardens, and trees. Additionally, it gives more protection against rusting.
One of the most important aspects of a wire mesh fence system is the gauge (diameter) of the wire that you use. Smaller gauges have more steel in them, and consequently the wire is stronger and of a higher quality. The 6 gauge and the 4 gauge are the best in the minds of many experts in wire mesh fence systems.
The size of the mesh used indicates the spacing distance between the wires in the mesh. Additionally, you can use this spacing measurement to get an indication of how much steel is in the system; a smaller vertical distance means that there is more steel. The widest spacing is four inches, usually used for light commercial or residential projects. Meshes spaced at one-and-three-quarters inches is usually for tight security and is also applicable to meeting pool safety codes.
You will want to have a dual treatment coating on your wire mesh fence system so as to help keep it protected and more aesthetically appealing.
The most-used protective coating is zinc, because zinc is a “self-sacrificing” element which will dissipate as it's protecting the steal of the fence. Additionally, zinc provides cathode ray protection. What this means for you is that if a piece of the wire is cut, the zinc will “heal” the new exposure by naturally formulating a white oxidation layer on the surface, protecting it against the ugly redness of rust. Usually, mesh is given a one ounce per square foot coating. The more zinc that is applied to the coating, the more longevity the mesh in the system has. |
