We have a dog that invariably gets out of the back yard at least 3 times per week.  We've seen her dig under the fence - and fixed that, then she starting climbing over the fence - and we've patched up the low areas where we can.

Now, we're looking for some sort of alternative solution to spending $2,500 or more on a new 6' chain link fence, so we're looking at something like the Innotek invisible fence.

The Innotek Invisible Pet Fencing System
This pet safe dog fence is a simple setup that has been receiving some good reviews.

T.Pittman said of the system: I have been using this system for two months and I am very satisfied with it. My dog no longer runs wild through the neighborhood. It is nice to give her outdoor time without worrying about her. If left out too long, she does start digging,so we trying not to give her too much time on her own. And we are keeping up her walks.

The installation took us about 6 hrs. We did approximately one acre. We used our tiller edger to cut the ground for the wire and it worked really well. We had to improvise the hookup because our patio wasn't accessable to the dog using the recommended set up. We ordered extra wire and flags because of the size of our lot. I like the fact that the collar is rechargeable.

I'm looking forward to having a system in place that will keep our dog from getting out of the yard.  As a child, several of our dogs escaped and got injured or killed by cars, so if you have a dog, you really need to invest in training them to stay in the yard so that your pet stays safe.
