What wooden fence to choose?

A very popular type of wood used for wooden fences is Cedar wood. As Cedar wood is full of naturally occurring acids and oils, the wood is resistant to many of earths elements. Because Cedar wood is a short grain wood, it does not shrink or warp like other woods. It is also very resistant to insects and termites.

Due to its strength, Cedar wood is also a very good fence choice for areas prone to strong winds. There different types of Cedar wood which consist of different qualities. Western Cedar is typically the stronger wood when compared to White Cedar as White Cedar does not have as many natural acids that give the Western Cedar is durability. Cedar wooden fences can last for as long as twenty years with the proper maintenance.

Other great things about Western Cedar wood.

Another great thing about choosing Western Cedar for your fencing material is its naturally occurring sound-proofing. Cedar consists of tiny pores that absorb sound; this is great for fences that are constructed for privacy reasons.

As Western Cedar is hydroscopic, the wood absorbs water and releases a sufficient amount that balances the wood with its environment. If your Cedar fence is touching the floor, you should apply a protective coat as not to upset this balance.

There are many different grades of Western Cedar to choose from. One particular grade is called the clear vertical grain heart. This popular grade of wood is very resistant to the elements and will hold any finish that you wish to apply to the wood.

So, if you wish to have a weather resistant fence that will stay standing in harsh weather conditions, the Cedar would be a wise choice.
